Writer: Brian GunnBrian Gunn

On January 26, 2025, Gematsu reported that SEGA filed trademarks for Skies of Arcadia and Eternal Arcadia in Japan on January 16, with the filings becoming public on January 24. Skies of Arcadia, known as Eternal Arcadia in Japan, is a turn-based RPG that debuted on the Dreamcast in 2000, followed by an enhanced GameCube version titled Skies of Arcadia Legends in 2002. Despite high fan demand, the game has not been ported or remastered for newer platforms.

The original game follows the adventures of Vyse as he journeys through uncharted skies to discover new continents and explore mystical ruins. Accompanied by Aika and Fina, he wages epic battles against savage monsters, evil pirates, and a powerful enemy nation. The game features a full 3D world with a highly imaginative storyline, beautifully detailed graphics, and immersive gameplay. Players can customize their own airship with up to 22 crew members and engage in hand-to-hand and ship-to-ship combat featuring spectacular spell effects and amazing special attacks.

The Legends version introduced an improved battle engine with hours of new gameplay, including new battles, new characters, and more. Players could fight with over 70 weapons and 36 magical skills in staggering ship-to-ship combat.

While the trademark filings have sparked speculation about a potential revival or remaster of the beloved title, SEGA has not made any official announcements regarding future plans for the franchise. Fans are hopeful that this development could lead to the games return on modern platforms.
